The articles on intellectual property theft were illuminating. I did not know that some of the rules were so explicit e.g. the exact maximum length of a poem must be less than 250 words. I am trying to figure out how this works for math. Does a specific problem belong to a person? If I borrow a open box optimization problem from a book, does the problem actually belong to the author, or must I use different numbers. Making manually solved problems for students is a hassle because the numbers must “work well together” to allow a solution by hand. It is often easier to simply find such a problem somewhere else. Creating technolgy based problems is easier because I can use almost any numbers mathematically meaningful and the problem will work. I will need to think about this issue further.

“Blogs” what they are and how they can be useful as an interactive “conversation” about the math we have done. I can post assignments. “RSS” updates the contents of sites automatically and lists them on the “aggregator page. Instructions are given to create an aggregator page. “Wiki” is a web site that allows all users to edit with text, graphics, videos, links.

What did I learn from the initial reading?   I did read it, but I am not sure that I learned anything particular that jumped out at me and is memorable.  I am sure I will learn many “memorable” things soon.
